Ah Youth....

Do you remember when you were young, just starting out in life and the world was your oyster?

I'm guessing you had big plans, big hopes and dreams. Maybe you had just graduated or started off in a new career, or maybe you just got married.. It seemed like the beginning of happily ever after. Only most of us find that happily ever after doesn't last all that long. It doesn't take long for life to throw you a curve ball. It doesn't take long for disappointment, disillusionment, or frustration to challenge your happily ever after picture.

And we don't often realize that this is a universal phenomenon. We all, to some degree, feel that sense that things aren't completely as they should be. This can breed a sense of discontent or comparison to others who seem to have it all. But the real purpose of our discontent is to point us to the One who is capable of making all things new who leads us into an adventure of hope and healing for ourselves, our relationships and even the world in which we live.

Let me assure you, no one has it all. Everyone at some point is going to face, disappointment with some areas of their life. Some have greater pains than others but we will all face the reality that we are broken people trying to navigate realationships with other broken people in a broken world. And it's hard. When we realize this, we adjust our expectations. We give grace to ourselves and others for imperfections. We seek the one who has control of everything instead of trying to control it all. And we set our focus on the important work that is specifically ours to do.

I have written a book that is due to be published at the end of the year that helps us to better understand ourselves and the world we find ourselves in from the context of our beginning in the garden of Eden from the book of Genesis. Anyone eager to know more about The story of who we are, and the grand story we find ourselves in today that has been deeply impacted by ancient events in the story of creation, please let me know in the comment section. When we understand the story as it continues on through history, we can look at our own current circumstances through a wider lens that sees the impact of the beginning on us all and the hope that is always present and threads throughout and finds it's complete fulfillment at the very end.
